STATE LEGISLATION

AVIC is the primary advocate for its member colleges and universities on matters under consideration by the Vermont State Legislature. AVIC develops its legislative agenda in November of each year. We traditionally seek legislative support for students in need of financial aid funding as well as economic and workforce development issues.
Vermont's legislative session runs from early January through mid-May. The adjournment date varies from year to year, but in general the legislature tries to complete its work in sixteen or seventeen weeks as it is a citizen legislature. The legislature is comprised of 30 members of Senate and 15o members of the House of Representatives.
